‘Five out of five bones!’ – Missy
‘Totally paw-some!’ – Charlie
‘Woof-derful!’ – Max

Sherlock Bones and Frangelica Pooch proclaim their love for their two favourite dog-friendly hotels Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa in West Sussex and The Surrey in New York City

Sherlock gives Bailiffscourt a resounding two paws up

Dogs2“Rolling fields, beaches, woods and fresh air – all this the moment you arrive for your holiday at Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa in the Sussex countryside.  Such a relief after the hectic pace of city life dodging cars, chasing squirrels and climbing the social ladder in the park.

Walking through the huge front door into reception I am treated like a king, greeted with a smile and a scratch between my ears – just how I like it – scrumptious biscuits, a bowl that’s just for me and my favourite guilty pleasure, a pig’s ear treat.  So far, so good.

Afterwards, a fun game of fetch along the beach – Climping, I believe my humans called it – a splash in the sea and a romp through the hotel’s parkland – 32 acres all for us, can you believe it?  Back in our suite after all that fresh air, I indulged in a well-deserved nap, toasty warm in front of the open fire.  I overheard my man say that each of the hotel’s 39 suites and bedrooms welcome dogs – how clever of them – and with oak beams and four poster beds they are also romantic and comfortable for the humans.  This is a good thing as hopefully it means my family will soon bring me back for another holiday.

Then it was my favourite time of the day – dinner.  As everyone knows it’s only the best for me and my humans.  While they tucked into something which smelled divine, I had my own gourmet meal – James WellBeloved organic chicken.  The perfect food to keep my coat gleaming and my teeth sparkling white… not to mention, I’m watching my weight.  And we all ate together in the lounge – so very civilised.

Clearly Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa understands that dogs are the ultimate travel companion and not to be left behind at home.

Hoowwl…. I love this hotel!”

Frangelica Pooch – “The Surrey is simply paw-fect!”

“I will never forget the day I got my first passport – I had just turned two and it opened up the world!  Since then, I travel everywhere with my lady and it’s only the best for us.  Where is my favourite place to travel?  Why New York, of course – the place to see and be seen, and where better to strut my stuff than The Surrey hotel.  On the Upper East Side, it’s where all the cool dogs go and with the launch of their new Posh Pets Programme, I’m never more than a moment away from a chic cut and blow dry or a gourmet meal.  Perfect before a night on the town.

It all starts when my lady and I arrive in our suite – there, in pride of place, my Surrey monogrammed dog bed – because not just any old bed will do – a nutritious meal and a sparkling water bowl.  After all, just because you’re on holiday doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style and service.

For those essential holiday indulgences, the five-biscuit gift box gets my tail wagging, but my favourite has to be the in-room doggie mini-bar, full of all-natural goodies from Bocce’s Bakery and the perfect snack after a long walk through nearby Central Park.

My favourite moment from my stay at The Surrey? Only in the Big Apple do they have a **Director of Pet Relations - there for my every bark and woof, who arranged dinner at a pet-friendly restaurant for us – giving me the chance to give my latest diamanté collar an airing.  My new BF, the DOPR** was also fountain of knowledge, on the best dog walks in the city, and the best shops to hit, to work off that mini-bar snacking.

The Surrey… all the little luxuries that today’s stylish traveller expects and deserves.  Bow wow wow!”

New York diary – why my neck hurts…

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

The more I visit  New York the harder it gets to come home. It’s great for everything, from monuments and museums to chic hotels, shops and lively restaurants, particularly during the Christmas present buying season.

BA’s all-business class from London City Airport, clearing immigration in Shannon saving us an hour and a half queuing at the other end coming into the domestic terminal at JFK with an Irish Coffee for the way – it could be worse, but it only got better…

BA001

For anyone into design and people watching, The Chatwal on 44th street between 5th and 6th avenues is the new place to be.  I was lucky enough to be one of the hotel’s first guests.  Having cocktails at The Lambs Club bar we found ourselves standing only metres away from Jennifer Aniston and Victoria Beckham.

After lots of sightseeing and shopping, where did the following day go? For the girls out there, don’t miss out on a visit to the new MAC flagship store on Times Square. Be advised on which colours work best – or in my case, what to avoid.

Times Square

We had lunch at Locanda Verde, the Italian restaurant at The Greenwich Hotel. I opted for fire-roasted garlic chicken as a main and shared a platter of deliciousness for dessert. Robert De Niro is a regular. Oh, and he owns it too.  Apparently it took more than 10 years to finalise the building to his taste. Each brick was hand-molded individually– now that’s what you call a work of passion!

The Greenwich Hotel

The fun activity of the day was THE RIDE, a new technologically amped up vehicle that turns famous landmarks into backdrops as a live show plays out in front of you. It was thrilling and we even had a Frank Sinatra moment humming New York New York.

Back at the hotel – with a whole new make-up kit – I got ready in front of my very own art deco vanity table – how glamorous!  And on our way out ….  “was that Keanu Reeves?’’ my travel companion said – I still can’t believe I missed that.

At night, the city takes on a new attitude. New York City nightlife infuses its visitors and residents with a joie de vivre. Whoever said that New Yorkers aren’t friendly – try again. A lovely chap happily seemed to miss his train to show us the way. Oh wait…could it have been my new eye shadow?

NYC by night

After checking in to The Plaza Athénée, in New York’s most elegant neighbourhood on 64th street at Madison avenue, its sophisticated homey feel made me want to lounge in my room longer than I should.  The Cosmopolitan cocktail at the leather-floored Bar Seine – featured in Sex & The City – is a must. Be aware, one is enough.

A great hideaway, we found ourselves having breakfast at the hotel with The Queen of Spain the following morning.  All that goes through your head is,  ‘’who else is in this room?’’  …no wonder my neck hurts.

I had planned a run in Central Park but ended up having a wonderful massage in the hotel’s new spa.

I love New York, how clichéd, but honestly, how could you not?

Christmas

Dear blog,

It’s raining…. this year, no traditional Christmas for me….

I think South Africa or Thailand are the places to be.   Or actually, Russian Christmas at The Grove is not a bad idea.  I can’t make up my mind….but whichever it will be, so long as Santa Claus finds me….
